Ciner Glass Installs First 102-Metre Chimney, Transforming Lommel Skyline

Lommel’s skyline has officially changed following the installation of the final segment of Ciner Glass Belgium’s first chimney at its new glass packaging factory. The 102‑metre steel structure now stands as a permanent landmark and a key milestone in the company’s expanding industrial site.

The installation represented a major engineering achievement, completed in two phases by international lifting specialists Aertssen Group and Mammoet. Their expertise in heavy and technically complex hoisting operations was essential to executing the lift safely and precisely.

In a shift from traditional industrial design, Ciner Glass opted for a modern steel chimney rather than a classic brick construction. The steel structure is lighter, more compact and faster to assemble, while also reducing the need for large quantities of conventional building materials. It is connected to an advanced filtration system designed to significantly reduce dust and gas emissions, ensuring the installation remains well within environmental standards and aligns with the company’s wider sustainability goals.

Ciner Glass also thanked its construction partners, including Tecoglass, for their contribution to the project.

Construction across the site continues at a rapid pace, with new milestones achieved each month, an expanding workforce and installations progressing steadily toward operational readiness. Ciner Glass Belgium plans to begin production by the end of the second quarter of 2026, aiming to grow into a leading player in the glass packaging sector and a long‑term sustainable partner for Lommel and the surrounding region.
